“if at all” photos on Pier 36

September 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Get ready for some amazing photos of Saturday’s performance by Ben Duchac

Check them out here. The performance went really well–a great turn-out and no rain. It was definitely bittersweet, though, since I don’t feel totally done with this piece but I need some time away to understand it more.

English Kills photos up

There are not that many photos of “if at all” at English Kills Art Gallery, but the video is fabulous, so I promise I am working on getting that up! (Many thanks to Clarinda Mac Low for filming).

Check out the photos here.

Pier 36 this Saturday, rain or no rain!

September 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I hope you can join me this Saturday, September 13 from 3.30-5.30 for the last showing of if at all. This time we are taking the piece OUTSIDE to Manhattan’s Pier 36 on the East River. See the waterfalls, bring a picnic… check out this truly weird space that the city has temporarily donated to artists.

if at all is a performance installation that has been in development over the past 6 months with collaborators PAUL ROME (music) and LENA BUI, KHALIA FRAZIER, OWEN ROBERTS, DANYA SHERMAN (performers). Lena isn’t performing with us now since she moved, but she was vital in helping to create this piece.

if at all is a half-hour cycle of movement and music, performed for up to two hours at a time. For the Arts Festival on Pier 36, if at all is installed in a forgotten space on the edge of Manhattan, overlooking Brooklyn, and in the shadow of an Eliasson waterfall. Needless to say, HOW and WHERE New York artists make work has been on my mind.

Although I will be moving forward with other projects, I am hoping to come back to if at all at some point in the future. Your feedback is always appreciated… nothing is too small to share.

Scouting Pier 36

Broken umbrellas figure prominently in if at all so I took this as a good omen.

Thank you for your support

September 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Thanks for supporting Sunday’s show at English Kills Art Gallery. I was really happy with how the piece looked installed in the space and I think the performers (Owen, Danya, and Khalia) really took it to the next level. (They claim they can do the piece all day! I don’t want to test them, though.) Photos and video of the show will be up soon, but in the meantime here is a photo Ashley May took of if at all at Bushwick Open Studios. It was exhibited as part of this month’s show (Maximum Perception: Contemporary Brooklyn Performance).
